100 Hip-Hop Mugshots: Stories Behind the Most Notorious Arrests

Lil Wayne, Foxy Brown, Ja Rule

With all the songs about thug life, drugs and violence, it isn’t too surprising that hip-hop doesn’t have the cleanest record. Rappers, in addition to singers in this world, make mistakes and don’t necessarily do the right thing, which tend to land them in jail. The stories of incarceration for drug possession, DUI and assault get headlines faster than the good deeds these artists’ do. Unfortunate as it is, we’re sure they’ve learned a lesson from their respective jail time. After they’ve done the time for the crime, it gives us a chance to house all their mean mugs and give some details as to why that tough (and even sometimes pretty) picture was taken in the first place. Here’s our list of 100 Hip-Hop Mugshots.

Ne-Yo

Ne-Yo

Crime: Reckless driving

Booze isn’t always the reason for speeding. Look at Ne-Yo. The 'Let Me Love You' singer was pulled over and then arrested in Atlanta for driving his Range Rover more than 100 miles over the speed limit. Cobb County police booked him on a reckless driving charge as well as driving without a license. He was released later that day after posting the $1,300 bail. He appeared in court a month later to respond to the charges against him.

Andre 3000

Andre 3000

Crime: Speeding and posing as potential danger

When he was cruising down I-75, outside of Atlanta, Andre 3000 tested just how fast his 1997 Porsche Carrera goes by driving 109 mph -- 44 miles over the speed limit -- in April 2009. He was arrested for the potential danger he posed. "Traveling that fast along 75, you're passing people as if they're standing still," Henry County Police Captain Jason Bolton said. "It's an accident waiting to happen." He was later released after posting the $1,200 bail.

Farrah Franklin

Farrah Franklin

Crime: Disturbing the peace

On April 23, 2011, Farrah Franklin, who’s best known for having a short stint as a Destiny’s Child member, was arrested for disorderly conduct in Culver City, Calif. Reports say that alcohol was involved, but she claims that she was racially profiled, “manhandled” and detained -- not arrested. No matter how you want to look at it, she was released later that day on $100 bail.

Prince
103

Prince

Crime: Disorderly conduct

Back in the '80s, Prince and a member of his band decided to pull a prank on an airplane. Apparently the joke wasn’t taken too well as the two were arrested on March 29, 1980. Doctor Fink, Prince's keyboard player, reportedly nabbed a megaphone from the plane. A witness ratted on him to a flight attendant and sky marshals approached the two to conduct a search. According to reports, the 'Purple Rain' singer wasn’t fazed by the arrest or guilty about the prank.

Tyler the Creator
104

Tyler the Creator

Crime: Vandalism

After finishing up a concert at the Roxy Theatre in West Hollywood, Tyler the Creator released his post-show energy by messing with the venue's electronic soundboard on Dec. 23, 2011. He was arrested and booked by Los Angeles police who charged him with felony vandalism. He was released later that day on $20,000 bail.

Natina Reed
105

Natina Reed

Crime: Driving under the influence, reckless driving and driving without a valid Georgia license

Georgia police stopped Natina Reed after witnessing her car swerving on the street on June 29, 2011. When the former Blaque member failed the field sobriety test, she was arrested for driving under the influence, reckless driving and driving without a valid Georgia license. Her license was revoked after a previous DUI. She was in jail for two days after posting a $2,230 bail.

Tyga
106

Tyga

Crime: Outstanding warrant for previous traffic violations

Las Vegas police stopped Tyga on a routine traffic violation last January. However when they put his name through the system, the 'Rack City' rapper had an outstanding warrant due to four prior traffic violations including driving without a license and "unlawful acts of financial responsibility." He was held in Clark County Detention Center overnight and released the next day.

Faith Evans
107

Faith Evans

Crime: Suspicion of misdemeanor drunken driving

During a traffic checkpoint in Los Angeles on Aug. 21, 2010, police arrested singer Faith Evans for suspicion of drunk driving. Her car was impounded, and she was let go the next day. However, she pleaded no contest that following November and was sentenced to three years of probation. She also had to pay $300 in fines plus penalties, complete a three-month alcohol program and was forbidden to drive “with any measurable amount of alcohol in her system” during the probation period.

Flo RIda
108

Flo Rida

Crime: Drunken driving

Miami police found Flo Rida’s 2008 Bugatti swerving through the streets of South Beach in July 2011. They also discovered him with bloodshot, watery eyes, slurred speech and alcohol-saturated breath. After two failed attempts at walking in a straight line and a blood alcohol level of 0.185, he was arrested. According to reports, his driver’s license was suspended on May 3, 2011, for failing to pay a traffic fine. He was released that afternoon after posting $2,000 bail and was given the OK to fly to Bangkok in the evening to perform but was ordered to appear in court on June 16.

Coolio
109

Coolio

Crime: Two bench warrants for multiple outstanding traffic violations

Coolio was chilling in the passenger seat when the Nissan Versa he was riding in was pulled over for a routine traffic violation last March. Though he wasn’t behind the wheel, his name sent off red flags when put through the Las Vegas police department’s system. The rapper was arrested and placed in the Clark County Detention Center -- the same place where his son is being held for allegedly breaking into a Vegas apartment with a gun and ransacking the place with a call girl. His bail was set at $5,850.
