11 of the Best Books Written By Rappers

Rappers are great writers in the booth and for some MCs, the talent bleeds over into literature skills. Over time, rappers have gifted the culture some amazing books like 50 Cent’s 50th Law and more recent written works like J. Cole’s foreword in Angie Martinez’ My Voice: A Memoir. A few rappers have even appeared on The New York Times‘ Best Sellers List.

In 2009, 50 Cent landed atop of The New York Times‘ Best Sellers List upon the release The 50th Law, his book written with 48 Laws of Power author Robert Greene. The book reached the No. 5 spot on The New York Times’ “Advice, how-to and miscellaneous” bestsellers list. The 304-page book was an instant hit. Common’s autobiography One Day, It’ll All Make Sense made an appearance on the coveted list in 2011.

J. Cole also claimed a spot with Angie Martinez’ My Voice: A Memoir in May of 2016. The radio icon recalls interviews with Tupac and Barack Obama in her 288-page hardcover. “Writing this memoir has been one of the most challenging and rewarding tasks I’ve ever taken on,” said Martinez. “I’ve seen a lot and learned a lot, and I’m proud that I’ve been true to myself the whole way.”

In the gallery above look over some of hip-hop’s best books including authors like Scarface and Jay Z.
