94 Detroit Schools Forced To Close Due To Teacher Sick-Out
Detroit teachers recently found out that they would not receive salaries after June 30th, which lead to more than 94 schools closing as teachers protested in a sick-out.
94 out of the 97 schools in Detroit were forced to shut down due a teacher stick-out that was called by the Detroit Federation of Teachers. The federation called for the sick-out, which affected tens of thousands of students.
2,600 teachers were called to take part in the mass stick-out. Teachers were informed that they would not receive there already-earned salaries after June 30th. Summer school and extended programs and services are also expected to be canceled if state Legislature can't approve sending more money to the district.
