Zaniyah Burns is the 7-year-old Flint girl who was shot and killed while in her home Tuesday night.

She was inside her own home. An innocent child in the place where children should feel safe. Around 8 pm a series of gunshots were heard and an innocent 7-year-old lost her life.

Flint police speculate that the bullets may have been intended for Zaniyah's older brother, who is only 16 himself. There are no suspects, and so far nobody has come forward with any information.

I am still in shock thinking about this story. I didn't know Zaniyah or her family, but having a young daughter myself, I have a hard time processing this tragedy. My heart hurts for her entire family, and I pray that they find a way to heal.

I want to take a moment to talk to the person that pulled the trigger.

I'm completely guessing here, but I assume you are a younger individual yourself. Maybe so young that you never really thought about the consequences of your actions. You might have even felt like you were justified in taking another person's life.

You were wrong.

You were wrong not to think about what may happen. You were wrong to think that taking a life is ever the right choice.

Most importantly you are wrong right now by not coming forward and turning yourself in.

Most people probably think there's zero chance you turn yourself in and think I'm naive for suggesting you do so. Maybe it is naive on my part, but I think that getting away with this might be the worst thing that could happen to you.

Pretend for a moment that nobody ever finds out what you did.

You somehow manage to make something of your life and grow into an adult. Maybe you even have a family of your own. You surround yourself with people that actually think you are a decent human being.

Can you imagine the heartbreak that your own friends and family will be faced with when the truth eventually comes out? It pales in comparison to what Zaniyah's family is dealing with right now, but it will crush you.

This is all hypothetical though.

What will most likely happen, if the police don't catch you, is someone will find out and take their own revenge out on you. The point is that things are only going to get worse from here. Your best option is to admit the tragic mistake, and try to make peace with what you've done.
