Michigan’s star running back Fitzgerald Toussaint has been suspended for one game and will not make the trip with the team to Arlington, TX for the Wolverines’ big game against second-ranked Alabama at Cowboys Stadium on Saturday.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year. School is back in session. Everyone’s favorite team is undefeated. Every fan just knows their team is underrated and will be better than expected. And we can finally stop focusing on offseason scandals and politics. Yes, college football is finally back.
With that, here is everything you need to know to be ready for week one action.
Second-ranked Alabama avenged its only loss of the season in a big way, shutting out #1 LSU, 21-0, in the Allstate BCS Championship Game Monday night.
Alabama’s defense, which came into the game ranked first nationally in virtually every major category, showed just why it deserves to be national champions, holding the Tigers to just 92 total yards and five first downs while pitching the first shutout in BCS title game history.
The second week of bowl season usually features some exciting games, and this year was no exception. Many of the games this week gave us wild plays, last-second finishes, great individual performances and, in the case of the Alamo Bowl, the kind of unstoppable offense that would make Bo Jackson in Super Tecmo Bowl proud. Here are all the highlights from the last week in college football.
Bowl season is hitting its high point with the biggest games of the year coming up in the next week. While much of the focus is understandably on the BCS games and the national championship, there are a lot of other good games coming up for your viewing pleasure in the next few days. We’ll have previews of the BCS games coming up shortly. But in the meantime, here is what to watch for in all the remaining non-BCS bowl games.
With the holidays comes the second week of the bowl season. This coming week features a lot of intriguing matchups, with Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III in action, along with several big name teams who struggled through disappointing seasons
After leading Baylor to a nine-win season and its highest ranking in over two decades, Bears quarterback Robert Griffin III became the school’s first Heisman Trophy winner Saturday night. Griffin edged out preseason favorite Andrew Luck of Stanford for football’s most prestigious award.
As college football’s regular season nears its end, the postseason picture is starting to take shape. Barring a major shakeup in the polls, Alabama punched its ticket to the national title game. It looks like U of M will be on the outside looking in ranked at 16th, while the Spartys can lock a spot with a Big 10 Title win over Wisconsin. Here are all the highlights from this week in the AP Top 25.
The day started with Lee Corso letting loose an expletive on ‘College Gameday,’ and things just got crazier from there. The BCS was officially thrown into chaos as three of the nation’s top five teams all went down to defeat. #1 LSU remained in the driver’s seat for the title game with another dominating win, but any number of one-loss schools are now back in the mix for the title game. The biggest beneficiary of this week’s upsets will likely be #6 Arkansas, who could move as high as #3 when the new polls come out and still have to play LSU, meaning the Razorbacks could control their own destiny for a spot in the national championship game (but, oddly, not for the SEC title game).
Here are all the highlights from this week in the Top 25.
After all the disgusting headlines out of Penn State dominating the sports world this past week, it was good to return to the field with some actual football. And the Top 25 gave us plenty of excitement to discuss.
Seven ranked teams, including two in the Top Five, went down to defeat. Boise State saw its BCS hopes die on a missed field goal as time expired (again). Oregon downed Stanford in a wild Pac-12 shootout. Oklahoma State looked every bit the part of a title contender. And Penn State hit the field without Joe Paterno at the helm for the first time in 46 years. Here are all the highlights from this week in the AP Top 25.
The report cites two unnamed sources close to the PSU Board of Trustees who say that, while the exact timing and manner of his exit is still being discussed, it is clear that Paterno will not be back to coach the Nittany Lions next season.
