Teaching is one of the hardest jobs to do as it is, but things get even more difficult when the average salary for Michigan teachers keeps on declining.

The Michigan Department of Education released yearly data, including average salaries, and it showed that they have declined for the last four years.

The average salary was $62,169 in 2013-14, and is now at $61,978 for the 2014-15 year.  These are still decent wages, but it's frustrating to see the averages go down, when expenses are definitely going up.

A couple of the factors that skew the findings are that most of the well paid teachers are in the Detroit Metro area according to Mlive.  Another is that the boom in charter schools that pay less than the average has brought down the numbers.

I have many teachers in my family, and the one thing that they all agree on is that the job is not getting any easier.  The demands are heavier than ever, and resources seem to be getting scarcer.

Teaching is one of the most important professions in the country, and without great teachers, the rest of us will suffer.  If you have any doubt about the importance of the role teachers play in your children's lives, check out the moving story below.
