Barbie has shown little girls that they can be whatever they want for years, but now she's speaking nothing but the truth on her vlog.

I know that a Barbie vlog sounds painful, but there are two things that I feel like we should clear up right away.

First is that Barbie is spot on with her vlog topics, especially in a world where little girls are sometimes taught the wrong things from an early age. Anyone with a daughter wants their girls to grow up knowing that they can do what they want, and be what they want. Barbie is taking on some of the subtle social missteps that get in the way of that. The 'Sorry Reflex" vlog above is a perfect example of that.

SECOND, and maybe most importantly is that we are NOT talking about this Bahbie.

The vlog does more than expose social mistakes that people make, it also shows that women can excel in fields traditionally dominated by men. The latest episode features Barbie teaching Ken how to code. Now let's not forget that this is Barbie, and at the end of the day she is a saleswoman. So the coding episode is a direct tie in for a Barbie coding computer toy targeted at girls, and I'm not even mad at it.

The bottom line is that there are a lot of hurdles standing in the way of our daughters today. We need to be consistent with the message that they can do and be anything they want, and we need all the help we can get.

When an iconic figure like Barbie is also reinforcing the message, it can only lead to good things. I also want to throw out a note to parents . . . WATCH THESE VIDEOS WITH YOUR KIDS! They are so spot on with her topics and observations. You'll find yourself nodding along with Barbie through the whole video.
