Everyone copes in different ways. The deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile have provoked all types of emotions. People have to vent in times like these and music is one of the most powerful ways to express one's self. It's no surprise that artists have taken to the studio in their efforts grapple with these past few days. Chris Brown did just that and came up with a track called "My Friend."

"This song I released for free for anybody dealing with injustice or struggle in their lives," Chris Brown wrote on Twitter.

For his song, Chris Brown captures the emotions involved in losing someone. The opening salvo displays that inner turmoil people experience during any type of loss.

"What was I thinking/Packing up and leaving/Now that you're wiser/I'm ashamed, yeah yeah/I can't even cry/Anxiety at night/Can't make up excuses/Gotta face the music," Brown sings on the opening verse.

As the track continues, Chris Brown focuses more on missing a loved one. Whether it's an old flame or a close family member, the singer hits home with the sentiments of regret and failed opportunities in life.

"If I said I missed you/Would you say the same/Or if I said I love you/Would you simply walk away/Thought we'd grow together/But every day we're further/Thought I did the right thing/But deep inside I'm dying," Brown sings on the final verse.

Chris Brown might seem like an unlikely source for such a meaningful song these days. Sadly, it sometimes takes a tragedy to provide a much needed reality check.
