David Banner has been talking about his new album The God Box for years now. Finally, the long awaited LP has a release date. The Mississippi rapper is set to drop the new album on May 13 and you can already pre-order it on iTunes. But before the project officially arrives, Banner has decided to get fans hyped with a new mixtape.

Before the Box serves as an official prelude to David Banner's upcoming album. The mixtape is a throwback as comes to you as an extended mix as opposed to the individual tracks that most "mixtapes" employ these days. Before the Box compiles some unreleased tracks, guest appearances, songs that will appear on The God Box and a few remixes.

The mixtape clocks in at just under one hour and features some great guests as well. Big K.R.I.T., UGK, T.I., Tito Lopez, Kap G, Chris Brown and DJ Michael "5000" Watts are among the contributors to the project.

While he may have a new album on the way, David Banner is keeping plenty busy on the road as part of his The God Box lecture series. The Crooked Lettaz member has also been making a difference in his home state, particularly in his hometown of Jackson. A few months ago, Banner donated a recording studio to the Boys and Girls Club of Central Mississippi. This is just a small glimpse of Banner has been doing for his community.
