'Overlord' might be a bit of an exaggeration, but sources are confirming that the Pistons have agreed to give Stan Van Gundy complete control over basketball operations in Detroit.

Sources say that Detroit is giving Van Gundy a 5 year deal worth $35 Million dollars to take over as head coach and president of basketball operations. That means Van Gundy would have complete control of the players on his team on and off the court.  This is a verbal agreement right now, and an official press conference is expected later this week.

Once you get passed the initial shock of one person controlling the entire future of our beloved Pistons, there is actually a very big upside to this deal.

The Pistons have a very good, young core to build around along with a lot of money to play with in the next few years.

Van Gundy has never had a losing season in the last 8 that he has coached.  Just to put that into perspective, the Pistons haven't even come close to a winning season in the last 5 years.

I think the best thing about this move is that the Pistons are getting a stand up guy in Van Gundy.  He showed his true character while being forced to deal with Dwight Howard in Orlando, and the circus that Howard created.  This video probably sums things up best.

ESPN is reporting the details around Stan Van Gundy and the Pistons.  See what the experts think about the move to bring Van Gundy to Detroit, and what the Pistons had to do to make it happen.

Do you think that this is the start of a turnaround for the Pistons in Detroit?
