The Tigers knew that they would have to do something at shortstop with the looming suspension of Johnny Peralta, and many think they have upgraded by getting Jose Iglesias.

MLB officials have announced that the suspensions of 8 players would be implemented starting this Friday, and that left the Tigers with a big hole to fill.  The deal with the Red Sox has ensured that the middle of the infield in Detroit is going to be solid for years to come.

The Tigers also added some strength to their bullpen earlier in the week by picking up Jose Veras earlier this week.  The recent moves have Tiger fans as optimistic as ever about the chances of returning to the World Series.
