Congratulations to Max Scherzer on becoming the second Tiger pitcher in two years to win the American League Cy Young Award.
Max finished the season with a league best 21-3 record, and dominated his post season appearances. Max received 28 of the 30 first place votes, with one of the other votes going to his Tiger teammate Anibal Sanchez! Scherzer showed his excitement on Twitter.
This is kind of a bitter sweet victory though for Tiger fans everywhere. Max is in the last year of his contract, and will no doubt demand big money after this year. He has earned it, but the Tigers are already paying out a ton of money, so they may be forced to trade him.
Scherzer’s agent has said that Max would like to sign an extension with the Tigers, but that would most likely mean that one of the other big names would have to go. Prince Fielder is on the hot seat after his poor playoff performance, but anything is possible.
In the meantime, check out some of the biggest highlights from Scherzers season.
