Drake surprised a University of Miami student with a wonderful monetary donation. On Monday (Feb. 5), the rap superstar gave 20-year-old Destiny James a $50,000 check that will go towards her college education.

The gift was a total shock to James, who initially was planning to show up at an event to discuss the importance of scholarships to would-be donors. James had no idea that she was the actual recipient.

“[Drake] just walks up to me and says, ‘Hey, Destiny,’” recalls James to The State. “And I went crazy. ‘Did you just say my name?’”

Drake told her he had heard about her, where she came from and of her scholarship essay. “So I’m going to give you $50,000 to go toward your tuition,” he said.

Destiny James, who is a senior and a public health major at University of Miami, hopes to continue on to a Master’s degree and return to South Carolina once she’s done.

“It was a very humbling experience,” she said. “And it was very rewarding. It gave me the feeling that my hard work hasn’t gone unnoticed.”

As for Drake, he's shooting a video for "God's Plan" at the University of Miami and invited some of the students to star in the clip.
