As promised, Drake gave an explosive performance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards Sunday (Aug. 25) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. N.Y.

Drizzy kicked off his set by channeling the backdrop of the blue skies and pillowy clouds of the artwork found on his upcoming album, 'Nothing Was the Same.'

He sang one verse from his soulful ballad 'Hold On, We're Going Home' before he segued into his No. 1 hit single, 'Started From the Bottom.'

Dressed in all black with an owl chain to represent his OVO brand, the Toronto superstar had the entire audience at the Barclays Center on their feet. Not to mention there was a flurry of explosions and fireworks going off behind Drake while he was rocking the mic.

Although he didn't score any wins at the VMAs, Drake certainly performed well with a pyrotechnic-filled performance.
