It seems like the Bridgecard life has reached the pockets of one of our public servants.  Flint's own Congressman Dan Kildee will live off public food assistance for one week to learn just how difficult it is to eat properly.

Dan Kildee is a Congressman representing Flint Township and decided to follow after the New Jersey Mayor, Cory Booker, in learning first hand the life of people who use food stamps.  There are proposed cuts to the funds that help many Americans eat during tough times.  Many people in our community use food assistance to feed themselves and children.

Congressman Kildee will live off $31.50 a week for his food source which can be extremely difficult.  I wonder what will he eat, interesting.

In a written statement, Kildee revealed he is trying to bring awareness to the propose cuts that would effect low-income families, children, and disabled citizens. According to MLive, Kildee said,

“With these deep cuts to nutrition programs being proposed, it’s important for elected officials to recognize the hardship millions of Americans face every day as they attempt to feed their families,” Kildee said in a written statement. “By living off such a limited budget, I hope to gain a better understanding of how difficult it is for many of my constituents to avoid hunger and try to meet nutritional needs.”

Kildee will start his heroic week on June 16th through June 22nd.  This will be interesting to see what his journey concludes.  Do you praise the effort of Congressman Dan Kildee or do you think the cuts will happen anyway?  Leave your thoughts in the comment section below.
