Genesee County Raises Tobacco Purchase Age To 21
The Board of Commissioners voted to raise the tobacco purchase age from 18 to 21 in Genesee County.
The new law was decided on Tuesday with a passing vote of 7 to 2.
Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette says the new raise in age to purchase cigarettes conflicts with state law.
Genesee County isn’t the first to pass such a law in Michigan. Ann Arbor City Council approved the same ordinance last summer.
The new law will go into effect in 90 days.
