There’s a kind of Murphy’s Law that must always be followed when it comes to movies like Geostorm: whenever some kind of technology is created with the best of intentions to help make the world a better place, some chucklehead is going to find a way to use it for destructive purposes. That’s just how it works! Geostorm is the next gleefully destructive entry into the genre of natural disaster movies, and we’d better get ready to see some stuff get blown up.

This movie is going to be perfect. I’m saying it now: Geostorm is going to be one of those films that completely delivers everything you could ever want from a CGI-heavy maelstrom of destruction. It already has 1) the title of the movie said IN the movie, 2) Andy Garcia playing the President of the United States, 3) a motley crew of heroes KIDNAPPING the President of the United States, and 4) someone intoning “Dear God…” as giant waves topple skyscrapers and the world comes to an end. What more could you want?

After an unprecedented series of natural disasters threatened the planet, the world’s leaders came together to create an intricate network of satellites to control the global climate and keep everyone safe. But now, something has gone wrong: the system built to protect Earth is attacking it, and it becomes a race against the clock to uncover the real threat before a worldwide geostorm wipes out everything and everyone along with it.

Geostorm hits theaters October 20.
