Get Your First Look at the Human Versions of the Castle Staff from ‘Beauty and the Beast’

Everyone knows how Beauty and the Beast starts off — a haughty prince refuses to give shelter to an old lady who turns out to be a fairy, who then curses him and his whole castle, turning him into a monster and his staff into inanimate objects. Well, the inanimate objects are still pretty animate, able to talk and dance and sing at poor Belle, who should be checking her food for hallucinogens rather than singing along, but who cares, this is a Disney movie. For those of you dying to see the rest of the castle’s inhabitants in their more flesh-and-blood forms, they’re human again in a new poster standee for the movie.

These photos come from the Beauty and the Beast Movie News blog, which has a bunch more close-up photos, so be sure to head over there to take a look.

Emma Thompson’s Mrs. Potts looks like the kind of grandmotherly figure you’d find on your box of store-bought sugar cookie mix, while Ian McKellen (Cogsworth) just looks kinda awkward and Ewan McGregor (Lumiere) is absolutely unrecognizable. Then we have Stanley Tucci as Cadenza, Audra McDonald as Garderobe, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw as the feather duster Plumette. You can also juuust make out Kevin Kline as Belle’s father Maurice up on the left.

Let’s just admire the last three again. Especially the hair. How many hot rollers do you think it took? One hundred? Two hundred? Stanley Tucci’s character Cadenza is actually equated on IMDB to a character from the Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas spinoff: Forte, a terrifying pipe organ who was the Prince’s composer in his previous life. We’re not sure if this means he’ll be villainous, or if they just wanted a talking organ in the movie. Hopefully it’s the second.

Beauty and the Beast hits theaters March 17, 2017.
