After a long and thorough search, HBO has announced the upcoming season of ‘Hard Knocks‘ will follow the Miami Dolphins. And, looking above, it’s easy to see why.

‘Hard Knocks’ will follow this Dolphins this summer during their training cap for the reality series that will premiere on August 7th. While the Dolphins do seem to be a team ripe for the drama of a reality show – a rookie QB, a rookie head coach and celebrity ownership that includes Gloria Estefan, Marc Anthony and Serena and Venus Williams – the truth is they weren’t HBO’s first choice. Or their second choice.

HBO wanted to return to Florham Park, NJ to follow the New York Jets, who were the focus of the 2010 season (the show did not air last year because of the lockout). While the series likes to change up the NFL teams every year, the cable channel couldn’t deny the media spotlight of Tim Tebow who will be battling for playing time with incumbent quarterback Mark Sanchez.

But sources told ESPN that the Jets turned down HBO’s offer and when HBO made a second offer to the Atlanta Falcons, they were rebuffed once again.  Eventually they found a home with the Dolphins, a team that always likes to make a big splash in the media.  Said HBO in a statement:

This marks the first time that the series has featured a first-year head coach (Joe Philbin) and we are extremely grateful to both Coach Philbin and the entire organization for agreeing to participate. As always, there will be plenty on the line for veterans, free agents and rookies.

So what do you think? Are the Dolphins an interesting choice? Will the Dolphins cheerleaders make frequent appearances? What about Ray Finkle?
