One thing's clear—the production on the album is next level and Cole is doing a lot with his voice melodically and harmonically. It's a very quiet album, subdued almost, and often times his voice sounds very low, sitting at the bottom of the track.

It also seems to be very down to earth, hardly preoccupied with the subject matter of so many other rappers at his level. There's genuine concern in Cole's tone, while the lush beats behind him make his delivery sound even more bare by comparison. The whole thing has a somber, plaintive sound. It's rather beautiful.
