Ice Cube is set to star in a new Disney adaptation of Oliver Twist. Thomas Kail, the Tony award-winning director of Hamilton, is also on board for the project.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, O'Shea is set to play the role of Fagin, a leader of a gang of London pickpockets. Charles Dickens' famous story follows an orphan boy who escapes his life as an exploited child worker and links up with Fagin and his crew of misfits. Ice Cube, Marc Platt of Wicked, Jeff Kwatinetz of The Firm will co-produce.

The story was already captured in the 1988 movie Oliver and Company. However, the new version will include Disney and Ice Cube for a musical adaptation that will cover multiple genres, including hip-hop. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cube and Kwatinetz are currently writing the treatment. Obviously, O'Shea is no novice when it comes to movie-making. Most recently, the rapper-turned-actor worked on Ride Along 2, Straight Outta Compton and Barbershop: The Next Cut. His upcoming movie Fist Fight with Charlie Day is slated to release on Feb. 17.

Ice Cube is also slated to act in an upcoming Scrooge-related movie called Humbug, which is likely going to open sometime in 2017. A few months ago, in late August, rumors surfaced online that there might be a new Friday movie on the way starring Ice Cube's son, O'Shea Jackson, Jr. However, Cube quickly shot those rumors down on Twitter, typing,  “This is fake. My son doesn’t have a Facebook account. Can’t mess with a classic.”
