Jay Z gave fans a real treat by hosting two exclusive “B-Sides” concerts in New York over the weekend. During the rap mogul’s two-hour show, there were plenty of surprises (Jay Electronica cameo!) and for a moment, audiences witnessed Hov defending his new streaming service TIDAL with a blistering freestyle.

On Tuesday (May 19), Jay premiered the one-minute freestyle video called “Stream of Consciousness” on TIDAL. In the rap, the Brooklyn rhymer throws lyrical jabs at his competitors like Spotify and YouTube while acknowledging the tragic deaths of Trayvon Martin, Mike Brown and Freddie Gray.

"Spotify’s nine billion and they ain’t say s--- / ‘Lucyyy you got some splainin’ to do’ / The only one they hatin’ on look the same as you," he raps in reference to a smear campaign against him and TIDAL. "That’s cool / I know they tryin’ to bamboozle you / Spending billions on meryin’ to confusin’ you / I had to tell myself ‘Hov, get used to it’ / It’s politics as usual.”

Then on cue, Jay follows with a rendition of the 1996 Reasonable Doubt track of the same name.
