Joyner Lucas Thinks His R. Kelly Comments Were Taken Out of Context

Joyner Lucas earned a predictably large amount of backlash after he tweeted out a message of empathy for R. Kelly the day after the premiere of Lifetime's Surviving R. Kelly docuseries (Jan. 4). Now, hours after he deleted the tweet, he's saying his comments were taken out of context.

"I gotta be careful with how I word shit now or what I speak on," Joyner began in a tweet he posted earlier this evening (Jan. 4). "Things can get taken out of context fast and next thing you know everyone start treating me like they just watched a “surviving Joyner lucas” series. Smh Like god damn. I’m 100% in full support of victims. Chill bro," he added.

Joyner's follow-up tweet came a few hours after his first message explaining his reasoning for deleting the tweet in question.  Joyner affirms his support of the women interviewed for the Lifetime docuseries that chronicles the experiences of R. Kelly's alleged sexual abuse victims. Apparently he removed the tweet because he felt he might not have done his due diligence.

Joyner made his initial R. Kelly comment earlier today, and it was one that reflected a totally different sentiment than the one echoed by the Twitter community, which voiced its disgust with the stories in the Surviving R. Kelly docuseries' first two episodes.

"I know this has to be one of the hardest patches in your life right now @rkelly," he wrote.  "I'm literally watching the entire world condemn you and turn they back on you. I'm not saying you don't deserve it. All I'm saying is please don't hurt yourself or take yourself out. I'd still be sad."

"I took my tweet down because i felt like maybe I should of watched the documentary before commenting," Joyner tweeted. "I haven’t seen it yet. All I know is I wake up 1 day and everybody wishing dude go kill himself. Im the same dude who created A suicide awareness video. Imma watch the doc tho."
