Kanye West is no longer a college dropout. The mercurial rapper received an honorary doctorate of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago on Monday (May 11).

According to DNAinfo, ‘Ye shifted some water bottles around before he was awarded his degree as a nod perhaps to his obsessive compulsive nature when it comes to design.

His brief speech at the commencement ceremony was a little odd but it’s Kanye West we're talking about here so anything goes. Yeezy began his speech with this statement: “I’m a pop artist. So my medium is public opinion and the world is my canvas.”

West then went on to say that receiving an honorary doctorate from SAIC has now legitimized him as an artist.

"This honor is going to make your lives easier, for two reasons: You don’t have to defend me as much! And I’m going to make all of our lives easier," he said. It is these Floyd Mayweather belts that are needed to prove what I have been saying my entire life - whether it was the sign of Paul McCartney grabbing me and saying, 'It's Okay, he doesn't bite,' or the New York Times cover, or the Time (magazine) most-influential cover. And now a doctorate at the School of the Art institute of Chicago."

"When I was giving a lecture at Oxford, I brought up this school, because when I went on a mission to create in other spaces -- apparel, film, performance," he added. "It would have been easier to have just said I had a degree at the Art Institute of Chicago! Thank you."

Congratulations to Kanye West on his honorary degree of fine arts. We know that you will put it to good use.
