Kendrick Lamar leads the pack of nominees for the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards. The Compton rhymer nabbed eight mentions including Artist of the Year and Video of the Year for “Humble.” Kendrick’s fiery video also garnered nods for Best Cinematography, Best Direction, Best Art Direction, Best Visual Effects, and Best Choreography.

Following King Kendrick are The Weeknd and Katy Perry who are tied with five nods apiece. Other multiple-nominated nominees include DJ Khaled, Bruno Mars, Big Sean and Calvin Harris.

This year, MTV has decided to make their categories non-gender specific. For example, the Best Male Video and Best Female Video category have been morphed into Artist of the Year field. In that category, Kendrick, Bruno, Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, and Lorde will be battling for the coveted trophy.

The 2017 MTV Video Music Awards will air live from The Forum in Inglewood, Calif. on Sunday, Aug. 27 at 8PM ET.
