Ten different foundations are coming together to give Flint up to $100 Million over the next five years.

The Charles Stewart Mott Foundation is putting in the majority of the money, with $50 Million in donations, some new and some are already in place.  The other orginizations are also teaming up to bring a total of up to $100 Million over the next five years.

The other groups involved are The Carnegie Corp. of New York, The Ford Foundation, The Kresge foundation, The Robert Wood Johnson foundation, The Skillman foundation, and W.K. Kellogg foundation.

The money will target six different areas of recovery,

  • Safe water
  • Health care
  • Early education
  • Area nonprofits
  • Community engagement
  • Economic development

The money is not just intended to fix the water problems in Flint, but help Flint fully recover and become a place people want to live again.

The huge donation also comes at a pivotal time in the Flint recovery.  The news about possible mishandling by Mayor Weaver could derail efforts made by donors if they prove true.
