The Internet can be a potentially dangerous place, and a new study shows that many people on Facebook aren't taking any precautions to make it a little more safe.

The study finds half of Facebook users accept friend requests from strangers while 13 million users in the US never opened their privacy settings.

Researchers warn, by not adjusting your privacy settings you are likely unintentionally sharing your personal data with strangers.  People can easily learn your birth date, phone number, family details, drinking habits and sexual preference.

And security experts warn:  Accepting strangers as friends is a bad move because criminals set up fake profiles to scout for potential burglary locations.
