Martin Luther King Day may have started out with icy roads this morning, but there are plenty of great family activities to take part in today in Genesee County and the surrounding areas.

  • Davenport University is looking for 100 volunteers to help put together blankets for Project Linus.  The Day of Service runs from 10 AM until 2 PM on Miller Road.
  • In Saginaw, there's a community wide celebration at Daniels Middle School on Hoyt Avenue. The free celebration starts at 3 PM with several jazz and dance ensembles.  There will also be presentations of Dr. King's popular speeches.
  • The Sloan Museum and Buick Automotive Gallery will both be offering free admission today.
  • Flint's Southwestern Academy is hosting two girls high school basketball games today - in honor of the holiday.  The games start at noon, with Beecher taking on Detroit Edison High School.  Southwestern and Detroit Cass Tech will follow at 2.
  • In Saginaw, there will be a Unity March at 10:15 AM from the Saginaw Arts and Science Academy to the Dow Event Center.

How are you going to celebrate MLK Day?  If you have an event that is open to the public, please post the details about it in the comments below.
