It was well after midnight before Michigan lawmakers finally agreed on a $617 Million bailout of the debt riddled Detroit Public Schools.

The bill is now headed for Governor Snyder's desk for expected approval.  The bailout money isn't just a bailout though, it will also do some major restructuring to the DPS.

With the new money, the DPS will be split into two separate districts.  The new district would focus on educating the students, while the old district would retire the huge debt carried for the past 8 years by the DPS.

The major point in this bailout is that control of Detroit Schools will go back to the locally elected school board.

This has been a rallying cry for many in the DPS reform project.

Do you agree with the state stepping in to pay for the DPS bailout?
