Fatal auto accidents are up in the state of Michigan reaching a 9-year high.

The number of people killed in traffic accidents in Michigan has surpassed 1,000 for the first time in 9 years.

Through December 13th there have been 1,009 fatalities in 2016 here in Michigan.

So whats to blame? Michigan State Police Office of Highway Safety Planning says its due to an improved economy and lower gas prices means more vehicles on the roads.
