Kmart announced that they will close five Michigan stores this year, including two in Genesee County.

The local Kmart stores closing their doors are on Miller Road in Flint Township, and North Belsay Road in Burton.  Both locations are expected to start their liquidation sales by the end of September and close for good in December.

Here are the five stores set to close:

  •  Burton (85 employees)
  •  Flint (81 employees)
  •  Madison Heights (179 employees)
  •  Port Huron (188 employees)
  •  Rochester (77 employees)

The Grand Blanc and Lapeer Kmart stores closed earlier this year, and most thought it was only a matter of time before the other stores followed suit.

It's never good to see so many people lose their jobs before the holiday season.  Do you think a new business will take over the vacant buildings?

If you find yourself in need of a job, there are a couple of big area companies hiring.  Click on the pictures below for more details.
