A Michigan entrepreneur has launched a business building tiny living spaces for people interested in simplifying their lives. Travis Rabenberg started a company called MiTonyHome in January, and since then, has been constructing micro homes for those who want to live large on a small budget.

Although the subject of tiny homes is a far cry from my usual entries on this website, a recent viewing of a documentary on Netflix called ‘Tiny: A Story About Living Small” peaked my interest on the subject of designing homes on the cheap. Similar to the homes in the film, Radenberg builds 10x20 foot houses for people all over the state of Michigan. He says not everyone is using these spaces as their primary living quarters; some are using them as guest house and other secondary spaces.

The Tiny documentary showcases homes that are really inexpensive – between $10-15K. Radenberg’s units range from $15-32K, which seems a bit costly, but they are new spaces with electricity, plumbing, and even solar power.

The potential savings on utilities alone is reason enough to look into this. But only if you are single...I wouldn't suggest trying to raise a family in one.
