Over the weekend, the Satanic Temple in Detroit unveiled a Baphomet monument before hundreds of followers in a secret location downtown.

Reports indicate that the location of the half-ton statute was kept a secret in order to prevent sabotage attempts from religious protestors.

Interestingly, everyone invited to attend was forced to sell his or her soul to the dark lord before being allowed admittance to the venue. Representatives of the Temple said this tactic was in an effort to keep out those who would try to cheapen the event

Prior to the unveiling, organizers reportedly received some backlash, including death threats, likely from the Christian community. Months of protesting by area religious groups suggest that they were prepared to go to great lengths in order to prevent symbols of Satanism from being erected in their backyard.

"It's such a controversial and charged object, it's almost unbelievable," Satanic Temple spokesman Doug Mesner told VICE. "It was funny to see that contrast between protesters crying because they thought this great evil was being brought to the world, and some of the people during the unveiling with tears in their eyes because they thought this was the culmination of what they've been fighting for for so long finally becoming realized."
