Michigan State Police have issued a warning to residents about an 'IRS phone scam' that has been making the rounds in Michigan.

According to WNEM the scam works like this:

You receive a call from someone claiming to be from the IRS.  They say that you owe back taxes, and instead of providing any useful information, they demand immediate payment.

Normally this would be sniffed out as a scam, but the people responsible have figured out a new way to trick people.  Instead of the number showing up as a random number on the caller ID, it shows up as a number from the Flint post of the Michigan State Police.

There have been several reports in the Flint area about this scam, so please be sure not to fall for it.

If you have any questions about a call you may have received, you are encouraged to reach out to the Michigan State Police.
