Eli Manning passed for 200 yards and a touchdown, and the New York Giants shut down Adrian Peterson and the Minnesota Vikings, 23-7, in an error-plagued game in East Rutherford, N.J. on Monday night. New York (1-6) notched its first win of the season by holding Minnesota (1-5) to just 206 yards of total offense, with most of the damage coming after the Giants were comfortably ahead.

The Vikings got their only points of the night on Marcus Sherels' 86-yard punt return for a touchdown late in the first quarter. Minnesota turned the ball over three times during the game.

Manning's 24-yard touchdown pass to Rueben Randle put the Giants ahead 10-7 with 9:33 left in the second quarter, and New York never trailed again.

Peterson managed just 28 yards on 13 carries for the Vikings. Quarterback Josh Freeman made his first start for the Minnesota, and he completed just 20 of 53 passes for 190 yards and an interception.

Newly signed running back Peyton Hillis carried 18 times for 36 yards and a score for the Giants.
