In a press conference today at Perani Arena, the IMS Hockey Corp. unveiled the Flint Firebirds as the new name of our OHL team (formerly Plymouth Whalers), unveiled the new team logo and released other details about the 2015-2016 season.

We finally have the name of the OHL team that announced their move to Flint earlier this year. The IMS Hockey Corp. purchased the Plymouth Whalers and announced their relocation to Flint in mid-January after months of speculation. After finally gaining approval of the OHL itself, who are required to evaluate the potential market for hockey in these types of transactions, the owners announced that they would hold a contest to help the people of Flint re-brand their new team and, understandably barred "Generals" as an option.

Today (March 15th) at the Perani Arena, they announced the winning name and new team brand as the Flint Firebirds. The Firebirds will officially begin their first season in Flint with the home opener on September 26th, possibly against the Saginaw Spirit.

The team has already launched an official website, as well as official Facebook, Twitter, Vine and Instagram accounts.
