Prom season is supposed to be an amazing, once in a lifetime night for high school students, but in Saginaw things took a deadly turn after numerous girls were shot at a pre-prom gathering.

Four people total were shot at the event, which is different from the actual Saginaw High Prom scheduled for tonight.  One of the shooting victims has died since the tragic event, and the Saginaw Police Department has released the following statement.

Approximately 6:08pm on Thursday May 23, 2013, Saginaw Police Officers, Michigan State Police troopers, and Saginaw County Sheriff's Department were dispatched to the Florence Event Hall on Salt Street in the City of Saginaw for a shooting in the parking lot.

A large crowd had gathered for pre-prom celebration for Saginaw High students. During the celebration multiple subjects had began arguing and when the argument got heated subjects began shooting.

Upon arrival at 6:13pm, officers were advised by witnesses that multiple subjects had been shot by multiple shooters. Officers secured the scene and multiple victims were transported via MMR to a local hospital suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Three victims are being treated for their wounds and one has succumbed due to a fatal gunshot wounds.

This is a joint investigation between Saginaw Police Detectives and the Michigan State Police. Our departments are still interviewing witnesses regarding this case and the investigation is on-going. Anyone with information about this incident should call CRIMESTOPPERS at 1-800-422-JAIL.
