Rhymefest to Hold Vigil to Remember Victims of Gun Violence in Chicago [VIDEO]

In August, Rhymefest was robbed at gunpoint in his beloved native city of Chicago. In an effort to address the issue of gun violence in the city, the Grammy-winning rapper is holding a vigil to remember the victims who have lost their lives to gun violence.

Rhymefest, whose real name is Che Smith, appeared on ABC7's Windy City LIVE, to talk about his harrowing experience of being robbed and the lack of police assistance following the incident. The Oscar winner said that there are "too many walls and not enough bridges" to help people who have been traumatized by gun violence in their own communities.

"All Chicago are suffering from trauma," he said. "People...are having trauma that's not being reconciled so they are building walls. So we are not working as one Chicago."

The vigil will take place at the Lincoln Park Presbyterian Church at 5PM on Sunday (Oct. 9) in Chicago. The vigil is free and open to the public.
