Powerhouse rappers Rick Ross, Common, LL Cool J and Lupe Fiasco have been selected to join DJ Grandmaster Flash and Furious Five members Melle Mel and Scorpio for a special performance of ‘The Message’ during the Grammy Nominations Concert, airing live on CBS.

The seminal 1982 recording, performed by Grandmaster Flash Featuring Melle Mel and Duke Bootee, is considered a touchstone in the early development of hip-hop music. The song has been sampled by hundreds of artists including Diddy (‘Can’t Nobody Hold Me Down’) and Ice Cube (‘Check Yo Self’). Thirty years later, ‘The Message’ has now been inducted into the Grammy Hall Fame.

Other previously announced performers include Lady Gaga, Usher, Rihanna, Ludacris, Valerie Simpson, Sugarland and others. Pop starlets Nicki Minaj and Katy Perry will be on hand as presenters. LL Cool J is the host of the hour-long special, which will showcase the nominations for the 54th annual Grammy Awards, airing on Feb. 12 at 8PM EST.
