Saginaw is working toward a safer summer this year by kicking off their 'Light Up The City' program Wednesday night on Ojibway Island.

'Light Up The City' is a program that asks residents to turn on their porch light at night during the summer.  The idea is that with more light, there will be less opportunity for crime.  Deeper than that though is the awareness that the program spreads throughout the neighborhood.

Residents are encouraged to walk patrols with the police every Wednesday night this summer.  From the LUTC website,

Light Up the City Saginaw walks will take place on Wednesday evenings. All walks have been divided up between the four city quadrants. Hospitality will be provided before each LUTC Walk at the designated meeting location from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. Actual LUTC Walks will take place immediately following the hospitality from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Residents in the four Saginaw City quadrants are encouraged to switch on their porch lights for safety during the walks

The kickoff celebration happens Wednesday (6/1) at 6pm on Ojibway Island.  There will be food, entertainment, and information on how you can participate with Light Up The City Saginaw.
