School Forces Deaf Child To Change His Sign Name Because It Looks Like A Gun

Hunter Sign Language
Daily Mail

A three year old deaf boy named Hunter is being forced to change the sign for his name because his school thinks it looks too much like a gun.

The Nebraska school says that Hunter signing his name, “Violates the schools anti-violence policy”.

Hunter’s name sign is made by crossing his index finger and middle finger and then shaking his hands.  The school says he needs to change the sign.

But his dad says it is an actual, registered sign and they shouldn’t make him change it.

The school district is trying to come up with a solution to the sign gesture.

I realize that we are living in a different time, where school shootings are a legitimate concern in any area, but this is ridiculous.

I would think that unless the school decides to do the right thing and realize that sign language is not threatening, the ACLU will probably be involved soon.
