The Olathe, KS school district is in some hot water after organizing a field trip just for the schools black students.

They were planning a trip to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, The American Jazz Museum, and a visit to an art museum to see a display celebrating the Civil Rights Movement.

The letter sent home said the trip was “open to our African-American sophomores and juniors.”

This caught the eyes of many parents in the district who thought the trip should be open to all students.  The district agreed and apologized for what they called a “misunderstanding.” They quickly flip flopped and said that all students are allowed to go on the field trip.

Some people are defending the school saying that no ill will was meant, and that it was only to enrich the lives of the students.  While others are pointing out the obvious example of what would happen if rolls were reversed?
