This is a very tragic event and we send our love to the families affected by this shooting.

FLINT, MI -- Flint police are looking for the gunman who killed a man at a funeral inside a church Saturday afternoon.

Flint police Chief Alvern Lock said police were called to Full Gospel Christian Church on King Avenue near Home Avenue about 2:20 p.m. and found a man shot just outside the church sanctuary.

Mourners were at the church for the funeral of Gerrell Tyler, 26, who was shot to death in Flint on Dec. 30.

Lock said the suspect fled the church after the shooting and is still at large.

It is unclear if Saturday's slaying is related to Tyler's homicide, said Lock.

Police are still interviewing people inside the church but are allowing people to leave the church after they get statements.

"No one expects to come to a funeral and see someone shot," said Lock.

Dewayne Patton, 48, of Flint Township said he was standing near the back of the church when he heard a gunshot and yelled for everyone to get down.

"It's a just a shame," said Patton. "I know back in the day when I was growing up, we never had anything like this."
