Student Night At The Flint Youth Theatre For Akeelah & The Bee

Akeelah & The Bee is showing right now at The Flint Youth Theatre and if you're a student, you are going to want to check out the show Saturday night.

With any student ID or report card, students can get free admission to the 7pm show at Flint Youth Theater's Bower Theater. It doesn't matter if you are in first grade or a grad student, because all students are free.

B. Alex Reed, director of Akeelah & The Bee came into the Club 93.7 studio this week with Ken Hopkins Jr, who plays Dr. Larabee. They both stressed how important it is for kids in Flint to be able to see someone that looks like them in a role like Akeelah.

The way she works through challenges, and comes out on the other end with even more determination is such a powerful message to a young mind. The show is filled with so many positive messages for kids that might find themselves in the same position as Akeelah.

There is definitely a lesson for everyone woven into the story line of Akeelah & The Bee. This is the last weekend of shows at the Flint Youth Theatre. You can get tickets to any one of the final four shows here, and remember that Saturday is Student night.
