After 'The Purge' became a summer horror sensation with Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey, Blumhouse Productions was ready for 'The Purge 2.' Though the film had a perfect formula applicable to various side stories, details on where the story would take us next proved scarce. Fortunately, one of the new stars has opened up and revealed our first tidbits on the next annual Purge.

Zach Gilford, who'll be seen in the upcoming 'Devil's Due,' is but one of the brand-new cast members in 'The Purge 2,' with Frank Grillo (Crossbones in 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier') leading the pack. According to Gilford, who spoke with Fangoria, the new story will take place on the same fateful night when crime is made legal, only this time we'll be taken out of the comfort of suburbia.

With the sequel, I thought they had a really great way to do a sequel because the first one took place in an upscale suburb with what happens to a family there when their security system doesn’t work. With this one, there’s none of the same characters, but it’s the same day of the year and it takes place in the city where there are no security systems and it’s just like a war zone where people are just trying to survive. So I thought it was pretty interesting to take that concept and to look at it from a different angle.

The story of the first 'Purge' saw Hawke portraying an upperclass inventor, who designs heavy-duty home security systems to protect those who can afford them from anything that might happen during The Purge, an annual event in which crime is legal and law enforcement and emergency services are suspended. Of course, things go sour for his family, and they find themselves fighting against a gang of blood-hungry rich kids infiltrating their home.

Aside from Grillo and Gilford, 'The Purge 2' will feature Michael K. Williams, Carmen Ejogo, Kiele Sanchez and Keith Stanfield. James DeMonaco, who wrote and directed 'The Purge,' also wrote and will direct the sequel, which will commence this June 20.
