The Roots Will Open 2017 NBA All-Star Game
NBA All-Star weekend is in New Orleans this season, and the annual battle of East vs. West will feature an opening performance from legendary hip-hop band The Roots.
The All-Star game will take place on Feb. 19, 2017. John Legend has been confirmed as the halftime show act. The Philadelphia band will perform prior to the teams being announced as part of the "Entertainment Series present by JBL."
The festivities will begin on Feb. 17 with the NBA All Star Celebrity Game.
Last year, it was all about Drake, as the proceedings took place in his hometown of Toronto. The 6 God was involved in almost every aspect of the three-day event.
The Roots recently reveled they are working on a new album. In October, Questlove posted a video to Instagram of producer Stro Elliot working on beats for the project. "In 1996 w our 3rd album #IlladelphHalflife we decided to be our own sampling source and jam in the day and sample ourselves at night," he captioned the video. "20 years later we are working on our 17th album entitled #Endgame....& we startin all over again. Here the gawd @StroElliot is breaking out his get busy tools and making ish sound tight!"
The Roots' last album, ...And Then You Shoot Your Cousin dropped in 2014.
NBA All-Star weekend would be a perfect time to break out some new tunes. We'll see. Check out the full slate of NBA All-Star events here.
