Tougaloo College is a private, co-educational, historically black, liberal black institution founded in 1869, in Jackson, Mississippi. The school was founded for freed slaves, and was established to train future teachers. Tougaloo College is a very small college but it is also very prestigious. Tougaloo College-or as students call it 'The Loo'-is a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) and they have decided to donate water bottles to the city of Flint, 67,000 bottles to be exact.

The reason I am so excited by this donation, is because Tougaloo College is my alma mater, I attended there in 2003 before coming back to take care of a sick family member then later graduating from the University of Michigan Flint.

When first hearing the news, I thought to myself "that is kind of random", then the more I thought about it the more it made since.

A lot of the population of Jackson, Mississippi are from Flint, and I mean a lot, as far as population, they are both considered small cities, both cities are going through hard times, and as far as makeup, they are both majority African American. Oh did I mention our mayor Dr Karen Weaver is a Tougaloo College alumni?

Tougaloo College has a very strong history of social and political activism and I am very proud of these young people and being apart of the Tougaloo family.
