The inspiration for one of Tupac's most popular songs "Dear Mama", Afeni Shakur has passed away at the age of 69 in a California hospital.

Marin County Sheriff's Office deputies responded around 9:34 PM Monday night to a report of a possible cardiac arrest at her home in Sausalito, California. According to Rolling Stone she was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead less than an hour later.

Shakur, born as Alice Faye Williams, was a well known political activist and Black Panther member in addition to being one of the most popular rappers of all time's mother. She spent a year in prison in the early 1970's while pregnant with Tupac and a month after her release, she gave birth to the legend in Harlem, New York on June 16, 1971. Tupac was always very public about the love and respect he had for his mother.  After his death in 1996, she continued to use his legacy to help provide art programs for students by founding the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation.

Rest peacefully Afeni Shakur, and enjoy being reunited with your son.
