People are demanding answers after a south Florida man was shot by the police while taking care of an autistic patient.

A man was shot and wounded by a police officer after taking care of an autistic patient.

Authorities are saying the officer shot the unarmed man after reports of a man threatening to shoot himself.

The man threatening to shoot himself was an autistic man and the caretaker was simply trying to calm the man down.

Police arrived on the scene and started yelling at the 47-year-old caretaker and the 23-year-old patient to lay down on the ground.

The caretaker pleaded "Please don't shoot me. Officer please don't shoot me."

Police shot the caretaker (who is currently recovering in the hospital).

No weapon was found at the scene of the crime.
