SpaceX put on quite a show with the launch of their Falcon Heavy rocket, but the amazing part actually dealt with what came back down to earth.

The Falcon Heavy is one of the most powerful rockets to launch in recent years, and it carried a very unique payload.

Inside the massive SpaceX rocket was Elon Musk's Tesla Roadster. The mission is to put the car in an orbit around the sun between Earth and Mars. Musk posted a pic of the Roadster as it started its journey.

This is all incredible, and it's a shame that there are so many bad things going on right now taking away from how cool this is.

The one part of the entire mission that really stands out to me is the fact that SpaceX figured out a way to preserve their rocket boosters. In the past the boosters would just free fall back to earth, or burn up in re-entry.

SpaceX worked out a way to have the boosters break away, free fall for a bit, then execute a controlled landing! A person watching the launch caught the boosters returning to earth, and the double sonic booms that occur on the way back in.

If this video doesn't make your jaw hang open for a bit, then you need to check your pulse.
